Bibio announces “groin-tastically trip-tronic” new album. Related: TMT attributes false quotes to Bibio.

Remember when British producer and electronic artist Bibio started cramming more Boards of Canada-style beats into his warpy, watery, swirly, and drippy drones with 2009’s Ambivalence Avenue (TMT Review), and everyone totally loved it and started paying more attention to him all of a sudden?

Well, he probably does too. In a press release for his new album Mind Bokeh, which is due March 29 in the US and April 4 everywhere else, Bibio pledged to continue Ambivalance Avenue’s adventurous genre-mangling and “acoustic guitars v. drum machines” cage matches. He also references a Thin Lizzie influence on one track, but we’re just going to pretend like he didn’t say that for now. Mind Bokeh takes its title from the Japanese word “bokeh,” which I think is Japanese for “hypnagogic” or something.

Anyway, check out the tracklist below, as well as a YouTube video-sampler of the album, below (I guess he was actually pretty serious about that Thin Lizzie thing). Also, allow me to be the first to point out that the cover art looks like a free cell phone wallpaper.

Deerhoof to team with Konono N°1 and Kasai Allstars, plan 7-inch series with Xiu Xiu and more

Deerhoof vs. Evil, Deerhoof’s Polyvinyl debut, isn’t even out yet (coming January 25, readers), but the band already has some new shit cooking on their wood-burning stove (yes, they’re that cool). According to Exclaim, Deerhoof are planning a 7-inch series that “will see each track from Deerhoof vs. Evil released as a collaborative single with another artist.” The artists will, according to drummer Greg Saunier, “create their own vocals over it, their own melody and lyrics and everything.” The first single with Physical Forms (featuring Busdriver) was released last year, and a new one with Xiu Xiu is already completed.

In other news, Deerhoof are working on a “big collaboration” with Congolese musicians Konono N°1 and Kasai Allstars. “We’ve also got a big collaboration thing planned for this year that’s super exciting; I don’t even know if I’m allowed to talk about it yet. It’s very likely that there’s going to be a large collaborative group that will include the members of Deerhoof, as well as members of Konono No.1 and Kasai Allstars, that will hopefully be doing some large festival shows in the summer of 2011.”

Also lookout for vinyl reissues of their back catalog later this year, because we hear vinyl is doing okay for itself.

Surfer Blood learn how to break shit on the road with Trail of Dead this spring

For some buzzworthy youngins like Surfer Blood, the chance to do a co-headlining tour with indie heavyweights …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead is also a chance for them to learn about the art of on-stage surlyness. Hopefully by the time they reach Brooklyn, Surfer Blood will be well-versed in the time honored traditions of spitting beer into the crowd, stage-diving, and instrument smashing. The tour will also coincide with a new EP that Surfer Blood is currently working on, due out this spring on Kanine Records, following up last year’s (ew… old music!) Astro Coast (TMT Review).

04.29.11 - New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom
04.30.11 - Boston, MA - Middle East
05.01.11 - Montreal, QC - Le Tulipe
05.03.11 - Toronto, ON - Lee’s Palace
05.04.11 - Detroit, MI - Magic Stick
05.05.11 - Columbus, OH - Basement
05.06.11 - Lansing, MI - The Loft
05.07.11 - Chicago, IL - Bottom Lounge

A Hawk and a Hacksaw release new album. Also, “A Hack and a Handsaw” is still available as a band name.

Show of hands, please: who here is guilty of ever having spouted out, in one of those bravado-fueled music conversations that we all pretend not to have but always do, something along the lines of “yeah, I really dig NMH’s In the Aeroplane Over the Sea for the imagery and all, but what really sets the thing apart for me is those totally innovative and sometimes microtonal arrangements that favor exotic, hexatonal scales and cast a distinctly Eastern European light on Magnum’s inherently occidental folk pop”?

Yuk. Well, first of all, you suck. Second of all, get your pretentious ass into A Hawk and a Hacksaw right away. The duo, which features former NMH band member Jeremy Barnes, is releasing a new album of whirring, droning, gypsy, klesmer, mostly-instrumental, carnival, folk, world music on March 8 via their own label, L.M. Duplication. The new album is (somewhat insistently) titled CERVANTINE and contains all the innovative and interesting Eastern European jams that you know and love, with almost none of those “pedantic pop tropes” that drive you up the ivory wall. Cheers, motherfucker!

CERVANTINE tracklisting:

01. No Rest for the Wicked
02. Mana Thelo Enan Andra
03. Espanola Kolo
04. CERVANTINE
05. Uskudar
06. Lajtha Lassu
07. At the Vulturul Negru
08. The Loser [Xeftilis]
