Sometimes I don’t want to listen to music, so I listen to stories instead. Not audiobooks, because I hate hearing someone else recite something I know I could just be reading myself. When I don’t want to listen to music, I listen to podcasts, and I really like Radiolab, because they tell weird stories that blend science and philosophy in ways that sometimes completely blow my mind.
I know some people who won’t even look at pictures of the people who host their favorite podcasts, because they don’t want to ruin whatever images they’ve dreamed up while listening. However, if you can handle seeing Radiolab hosts Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich in real life, then the Radiolab live tour might be up your alley. They’ve got a show called Apocalyptical that they’ll be taking on the road this fall, and it’ll include stories about all varieties of endings.
And, as if this shindig wasn’t rad already, guitarist/composer Sarah Lipstate (a.k.a. Noveller) will be providing the show’s score. We quite liked Noveller’s most recent LP, Glacial Glow, and her cerebral guitar work should be a perfect soundtrack for Radiolab’s stories. Wander over here for tickets.
