Thursday is the day for getting things done. Me? I got a whole humdinger of a day planned out, full of productivity and fun. My to-do list goes a little something like this: do laundry, clean my room, pay some bills, sign metal power trio NAILS, and make some burgers for supper. All of that should go according to plan, lest celebrated metal label Southern Lord goes ahead and signs NAILS or I get sucked into reading about different members of The State on Wikipedia.
Well, what do you know? Southern Lord just had to go and ruin my day by signing NAILS. (Also, did you know Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant wrote Night at the Museum? Shucks!) To be fair, it’s probably for the best. Had I been able to sign them, I probably would have just invited them over to my house and tried to record the album via an old Yak Back I have lying around. Southern Lord, on the other hand, plan to release a new record from the group early next year, while also reissuing their Kurt Ballou-recorded Unsilent Death album (which was given a limited release earlier this year). Still, I was going to buy them pizza and nachos, so they’re missing out.
NAILS will also be getting all buddy-buddy with their Southern Lord labelmates when they play the Southern Lord-sponsored The Power of the Riff Festival in LA on August 8. In September, they’re heading out on a pretty lengthy tour, bringing every last bit of destruction and pain with them.
