Tim Heidecker (of Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) is releasing an album for shits; meanwhile, no one will release yours! What a world! http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/news-10-12-tim-heidecker.gif

As a wise man once said: some guys get all the breaks. Tim Heidecker (co-creator of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) seems to be one of those guys. I mean, come on now. Is there a single one of you reading this who doesn’t think you could pack a few bowls in the attic, sit on the couch with a flip cam, and do what that guy does for a living just as successfully?? Exactly. Me too. Thing is, Tim beat us to it. So now he’s funny and authoritative, and we’re not. And damned if he isn’t reaping the benefits of having a paid outlet for his antics.

Case in point: he and Davin Wood (Tim and Eric’s resident music guy) are, just for the schmaltzy comedy fun of it, releasing an LP together. Entitled Starting From Nowhere, this newest venture comes out on March 15 via Little Record Company and consists of a dozen songs written at Tim and Davin’s home studios over the past couple of years that, for one reason or another, weren’t quite right for their hit TV show. See? Home studios? Hit TV shows? This guy is killing me!

What will the record sound like, you ask? What else? A mix of 70s soft rock (Eagles, Billy Joel, Doobie Brothers), singer-songwriters (Jackson Browne, Seals and Croft), and epically cheesy studio rock groups (Steely Dan, Queen). According to the whiz-bang press release, the combination of Heidecker’s “strange mix of dry humor and sincerity with Wood’s spot-on ability to create authentically nostalgic sounding tracks” creates some truly epic shower jams. Whatever. We’ll see what Harry Nilsson has to say about THAT, Tim.

RIP: Teena Marie

From CNN:

Teena Marie, a celebrated R&B singer-songwriter, was found dead Sunday at her California home, her manager said.

Born Mary Christine Brockert in Santa Monica, California, the 54-year-old artist famously paired with late funk legend Rick James and was nominated four times for a Grammy Award, according to her official website.

Marie was found dead by her daughter after apparently dying in her sleep, manager Mike Gardner said.
“Teena was a black voice trapped in a white body,” said Cathy Hughes, founder of Radio One, a broadcasting company that targets African-American and urban listeners. “I would always tell her that she was one of the greatest vocalists of our time.”

Among her songs were “Lovergirl,” “Portuguese Love,” “Ooo La La La,” and “I’m a Sucker for Your Love.”

White Fence (that guy who does a lot of psych-garage stuff) to release …Is Growing Faith next year on Woodsist

The verdict is still not out on whether musicians are really greedy for attention or inordinately giving. Many stretch themselves thin, inviting themselves to every shindig with a fresh face, like a 1950s socialite attending five holiday parties on a Saturday night and showing up with a fancy casserole at each location. Tim Presley is no exception, and when you count up his recipes, he’s a regular Betty Crocker.

We reminded you earlier this year who Tim Presley is, when the Chocolate Grinder graced us with a track from the self-titled debut from White Fence, Presley’s latest project. That is, his project aside from Darker My Love, The Strange Boys, and earlier, The Nerve Agents and The Fall (okay, so his Fall contribution is isolated to playing guitar on Reformation Post TLC back in 2007, but it got your attention, didn’t it?).

…Is Growing Faith, White Fence’s next addition to Woodsist’s catalog of noisy, weird-ish (it’s not breaking any barriers, but it’s not Katy Perry) psychedelic pop with garage guitar and woozy vocals is out January 10, 2011 — at a time when the music is most incongruous with the weather, even in his sunny SoCal home. Presley’s going to do the best he can do with the climate when he sets off on a tour with The Babies in January, but White Fence are not leaving the West Coast.

…Is Growing Faith tracklisting:

01. And By Always
02. Growing Faith
03. Sticky Fruitman Has Faith
04. Your Last Friend Alive
05. Enthusiasm
06. A Pearl Is Not a Diamond
07. Tumble, Lies & Honesty
08. Lillian (Won’t You Play Drums?)
09. Get That Heart
10. Harness
11. Stranger Things Have Happened (To You)
12. Body Cold
13. The Mexican Twins/Life Is… Too $hort
14. Art Investor Collector
15. When There Is No Crowd
16. You Can’t Put Your Arms Around a Memory (CD/digital-only bonus)

Explosions in the Sky head back to Europe for first tour since 2008 (and to pick up pizza from that great place in Naples)

Do you live in Europe? Are you tired of hearing about new tours coming through town that don’t include Explosions in the Sky (who are your favorite band)? Do you wish you could go back in time to 2008 when Explosions in the Sky actually toured Europe? Well, put away your time machine, Dr. Doom, because Explosions in the Sky are heading back to Europe!

The tour, scheduled to start and end in May, will be the first headline shows that the Exploding boys will have played in either the UK or Europe in the last two years and are the first shows that the dudes have played anywhere since their four-city 10th anniversary shows way back in the bygone era of 2009.

The shows are being planned in advance of Explosions in the Sky’s yet-to-be-titled follow-up to 2007’s All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone (TMT Review), which is scheduled for release in spring 2011 through long-time home Temporary Residence Ltd. As is always the case, more details on both the new record and more dates are forthcoming and will probably be written about by me.

Explosions in the Sky European tour:

05.16.10 - Dublin, Ireland - Vicar St
05.17.10 - Manchester, UK - Academy
05.19.10 - London, UK - Roundhouse
05.20.10 - Paris, France - Bataclan
05.22.10 - Berlin, Germany - Postbahnhof
