…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead on the verge of leaving some more grim trails with upcoming tour of North America

…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead on the verge of leaving some more grim trails with upcoming tour of North America http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/1306/news-13-06-trail-of-dead.jpg

Though it’s undoubtedly more enjoyable if you do, you don’t need to actually see Trail of Dead to surmise the Trail of Dead live experience. An acquaintance with their recorded works leads to the following supposition: the Austin quartet ventures on stage, and so commences the breaking loose of all hell. The accumulation of energy threatens the structural integrity of the stage and/or building, and the accumulation of sweat leads to a stream two-inches deep flowing down to the audience, from upper plateau to lower. Wading, moshing, and possibly puking due to the sheer intensity of it all, fans don’t wonder if it’ll ever end, they wonder if they’ll survive to make it to the end. But so they do, assuming they can avoid any flying debris resulting from the band’s tendency to end things with a little equipment-trashing.

Sounds like fun though, no? Inhabitants of Asia and Australia just recently had the chance to experience this musical shitstorm firsthand, and now, the band has announced a series of dates in North America and Europe for right in the middle of summer — because something feels wrong about heading into a Trail of Dead show wearing a god damn parka.

Separately, as far as releases go, the band has a PledgeMusic campaign for their next EP Tao of the Dead Part III, tentatively due out September 24. And on July 9, Superball Music will be reissuing the following albums on 180g vinyl: Lost Songs, Tao of the Dead, The Century of Self, Madonna, and …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. Mortality doesn’t seem to be a question here.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings cancel tour and postpone album because of health concerns

Well, this is a bummer. Sharon Jones has been diagnosed with stage-one bile duct cancer, and as a result has cancelled her upcoming tour with the Dap-Kings and pushed back the August 6 release of Give the People What They Want, the follow-up to 2010’s I Learned the Hard Way (TMT Review). Fortunately, Jones’ illness was discovered early enough that she is expected to experience a full recovery after her surgery. Even so, she’ll require a significant surgery that will “necessitate a rather lengthy convalescence.”

The group will reportedly be back very soon with a re-scheduled tour and new album release date. For her part, Jones says she is “down but not out” and that she is excited to get back to music after the surgery:

I will be having surgery very soon and will have to rest and recover.
I’ll be staying in touch and keeping my fans and friends updated on my
progress. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the
people what they want!

Frank Ocean’s summer world tour will be the zenith of all of our lives–well, if we’re from Europe

Grammy-award winner, Bieber song ghostwriter, groundbreaking sexual orientation Tumblr blog-writing dude, and purveyor of all-around great soul tunes Frank Ocean can add another flashy title to his Wikipedia page: jet setter. Ocean’s got a summer world tour lined up, so sorry, USA, but we’ll always have Paris or whatever. (Well, Paris will have Paris, and the UK will get a healthy dose of Frank Ocean, and the US has YouTube videos.) Hell, Frank Ocean is even going to Australia for the Splendour in the Grass Festival. That’s how you know it’s a bona fide world tour: AUSTRALIA. That shizz is far away, man.

But it’s not just about our antipodean friends, oh no! Frank Ocean is going to Europe, and boy is he playing a lot of PARKS. Imagine the sheer joy of being a child with popsicle smeared all over your face, getting pushed in the swing by your underpaid Polish nanny (you’re an English child) as the sweet, melancholy sounds of “Swim Good” float into your ears. Wouldn’t that be awesome? That moment of sheer joy is what the Frank Ocean Summer 2013 world tour will be all about. Except for instead of mere moments, it’s like, an entire month. Better start working on pronouncing, “What’s up, Laugardalshollin!?!?!?!?!?” right now, Frank.

Best Coast go on tour of United States or, as they call it, Big California

Pray for Best Coast. Very few know that the duo of Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno have a rare case of Californitis. Thankfully, it’s not a fatal disease, it just makes you see the entire world as if it is California. Missouri? Looks like California. Maine? Looks like California. Mogadishu? Even that looks like California. Those two could look at the Appalachia mountains and see a white beach connected to a blue ocean. It’s not something that severely affects their life, it’s mostly just kind of weird. To us, the band is currently on a tour of the United States. To them, they are touring California, seemingly forever.

Their tourmates won’t speak a word of this. Best Coast will be joined by the likes of Bleached, Guards, and Lovely Bad Things throughout their tour, all of whom will be extremely confused whenever the band references the warm California sunshine in, say, Philadelphia. They will also be opening for Belle and Sebastian on one date, who they will greet with an enthusiastic “WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA!” Fortunately, that date is actually in California.

Danny Brown takes “Old & Reckless” tour to Europe, perpetuates the most entertaining mid-life crisis, like, ever

Go ahead and dispute the benefits of naming a tour without any unique qualities to it, and then quickly scold yourself for not appreciating Detroit rapper Danny Brown, whose disposition lies somewhere between easy-going and that of a human jack-in-the-box. Additionally, his “Old & Reckless” tour, which sort of began at SXSW and persisted in North America up until Sasquatch, isn’t exactly typical — it’s the first that he’s headlined, and the first for which many paragraphs were written in response to a spontaneous on-stage blowjob. Could things get any weirder? Well, sure. Just add the “European” descriptor to virtually anything and you’ve increased its weirdness by about double. Beginning June 9, Brown will take his “Old & Reckless” proclivities to 11 venues across the continent.

And as far as tour titles go, this one has the virtue of not being unnecessarily obscure, but fitting: despite being in his 30s, the jovial lyricist still evinces the impulses of a 13-year-old boy, home alone, with the password to the parental controls. “Most of my raps, I guess, come from the dickhead… instead of the brain sometimes, you know. I guess I’m thinking with my dick when I write, I don’t know!” We at TMT applaud that kind of honesty, and are otherwise advocates of a new genitalia-based consciousness.

Check out a teaser of Brown’s European dates below. His new album Old is forthcoming.

Dates:

06.09.13 - Manchester, UK - Parklife
06.11.13 - London, UK - Scala
06.12.13 - Brighton, UK - The Haunt
06.13.13 - Bristol, UK - The Fleece
06.14.13 - Birmingham, UK - Academy 2
06.15.13 - Glasgow, UK - The Arches
06.16.13 - Dublin, Ireland - Sugar Club
06.17.13 - Dublin, Ireland - Sugar Club
06.19.13 - Paris, France - La Bellevoise
06.20.13 - Berlin, Germany - Splash
06.21.13 - Hilvarenbeek, Netherlands - Best Kept Secret

Big Boi hurts his knee and reschedules tour dates with Killer Mike; sorry guys, your summer is OVER

Guys, Big Boi hurt his knee. It’s over, guys. The dream of seeing Big Boi on tour with Killer Mike this summer is dead. Okay, well, just til Big Boi gets surgery on his knee, but the internet is not the place for subtlety. It is a place for DRAMA. And CAT PICTURES.

See, Big Boi screwed up his knee, so he’s gotta get that thing fixed. Then he’s gotta take it easy for six weeks, which is niiiiiiiiicely timed to allow the rap genius to watch every single new Arrested Development episode as it airs. And to write some really seriously involved Game of Thrones fan fiction. All of Big Boi’s remaining tour dates have been delayed till September, with the exceptions of the festivals in Montreal, Raleigh, Louisville, and Somerset, WI.
