TV On The Radio Dramatically Expand Tour in Support of Dear Science,; Ethno-Sectarian Violence Is Funny If You Think Really Hard About It

- This, you already know: On September 23, TV On The Radio will release Dear Science,, the group's third full-length album. The follow-up to Return to Cookie Mountain (TMT Review), Dear Science, marks the band's second album for major label Interscope, though 4AD will release the album September 22 outside the U.S.

- This, you didn't already know: TV On The Radio have significantly expanded their upcoming U.S. tour, which effectively books the group all the way to November. Meaning: if you were hoping for TV On The Radio to play your Bar Mitzvah sometime soon, you can forget about it right now. Joining the band for a handful of dates will be Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, with The Dirtbombs taking over opening duties once they hit the East Coast.

Long-Anticipated Documentary Beach Boys and The Satan to See Release in September

On September 30, I recommend moseying on down to your local Video Emporium and picking up a copy of the newly (and finally) re-released movie Beach Boys and The Satan, a documentary exploring some of the more dubious events and people of the 1960s. Originally released in 1997, the film has since been long out of print, and many a fan of The Beach Boys and ’60s-era pop culture patiently await the re-release date.

The film dives headfirst into the later history of “America’s Band,” exploring Dennis Wilson’s involvement and friendship with Charles Manson (who recently released an album from prison) and his “Manson Family” cult. The band’s history and development is illustrated with rare footage and interviews with band mastermind Brian Wilson. Furthermore, it attempts to offset the current image of the 1960s as a peaceful, loving, and almost heavenly place by comparing ’60s good guys The Beach Boys with some of its more colorful figures, like Anton LaVey and Kenneth Anger. The film goes on to explore the darker aspects of The Summer of Love and how those undercurrents affected even The Beach Boys. Definitely worth a watch.

Again, the film comes out September 30, will probably cost around $19.95, and comes fully recommended by Kid Midnight. This recommendation also carries with it the full backing and support of TMT editor Mr P, cause, well, he does whatever I do -- just like how little brothers always act.

Idea for Fable: “The MC and the Shoe.” Aesop Rock Tours, Releases Adidas Design. Moral: “Slow and Steady Wins the Ankle Brace.”

Summer: when a young person's fancy turns to carefree days down at the ol' fishin' hole; swarming losers for their flash sneakers; and red hot smokin' rock tours! The reddest, hottest, and most smokin'est tour this summer may very well prove to be Aesop Rock, who is back with a block of dates starting August 15 in Boston. By his own fast-paced standards, Aesop Rock has been relatively quiet of late, or at least out of the gaze of us nosy peepers. Away from the velvet ropes and TMZ coverage, the man born as Ian Matthias Bavitz has presumably been his usual workaholic self, hinting at a bunch of recordings, collaborations, and guest spots (he shows up with Yak Ballz on one of Amp Live’s Tokyo Police Club remixes). Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz will play on all dates, and shows will have differing opening acts depending on which U.S. coast you live. The one exception is the show at McCarren Pool in NYC, which features guests Panther and Chin Chin. That is, unless any more dead bodies are found there.

If seeing Aesop Rock live or corpse rockin’ in New York isn’t your thing, Bavitz saw his own sneaker design rolled out through Urban Playground's Original Adidas series on July 31. It looks like this and -- attention eBay gougers! -- is a limited run of 500 pairs. A new pair of shoes has been introduced to the discriminating podalic marketplace every Thursday since July 17, with sets designed by Herbert Baglione, David Choe, and Sam Flores (forthcoming). The Aesop Rock model is a Stan Smith and the MC explains his design thusly:

The faded green and gold colors have a strange eerie-meets-regal vibe that I liked when designing the art for last year's None Shall Pass album. I wanted to continue that color scheme, and keep it pretty simple. I didn't want anything too intrusive. Basically I just wanted something that I'd rock, and my mother might even wear them.

Los Campesinos! Announce New Album; That Sensation You’re Experiencing Right Now Is Called “Déjà vu”

Remember back in April when peppy Welsh septet, Los Campesinos!, released their debut album, Hold On Now, Youngster? Well, they’re about to do it all again. Apparently one album in 2008 wasn’t enough, because the band has just announced the release of their sophomore follow-up. Already?! Jeez, you guys can take a year or two to chill in-between albums like most bands do, you know.

Nevertheless, Los Campesinos! are, uh, back with their second album, entitled We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed. The album is due out on Arts&Crafts November 11 in North America and was produced by John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney, Blonde Redhead, Bikini Kill). I know what you’re thinking: after touring for most of the year, how the hell did Los Campesinos! even have time to write and record 10 songs? Well, the band would like to assure you that there are no B-sides on the album or “songs that weren’t good enough to be on the album cobbled together with some remixes and field recordings.” Instead, the album consists of brand new, never-before-heard tracks. Check out the tracklisting for proof.

Yo La Tengo are finally making all of their film score work available on a compilation CD, released through their own label, Egon. Cleverly titled They Shoot, We Score, the compilation will not only include the original soundtracks to Game 6, Junebug, Old Joy, and Shortbus, but it will also include a handful of outtakes.

The CD contains 27 instrumental tracks (26 of which are unreleased) and comes with a booklet of international posters. It'll also feature four different covers, one for each movie, and here's an animated GIF to prove it:

CDs ship September 5, at which time a digital download option will become available. You can pre-order the CD now.

In other news, Yo La Tengo will be playing the final free McCarren Park Pool Party along with Titus Andronicus and Ebony Bones on August 24. The gig is a week before Sonic Youth plays the venue's final show August 30.
