It’s a match made in… HELL. Black metal dude Xasthur is hooking up with eerie folk songstress Marissa Nadler for an album called Portal of Sorrow, rumored to be out this March. Now, this isn’t the first time the disparate worlds of folk and metal have collided, but it might be the most explosively compelling.
Both have issued dark proclamations — ok, whatever, they “wrote” — on their blogs. Xasthur declared that working with Nadler “is really an honor because I’m quite a fan of her music.” (As am I, Xasthur, we have so much in common!) He also adds that her voice is “another instrument to accent the music of Xasthur which is an old sound that just doesn’t come out of today’s technology.” Nadler described the collaboration by saying that “he has words but I have none. Its been lovely to break through vocal barriers and inhibitions and contribute to something harder and darker.” And lovely for all of us! Clearly this Portal of Sorrow will open some spooooky doors… to total awesomeness.
