Original cover art for Slime Season 3

Slime is a substance. Slime is the middle ground between something off-kilter like Jeffrey Williams’s characterization of Young Thug and a Francis Bacon painting hung in the Vatican. Slime is your best impression of Young Thug. Slime is a weedboat powered by blowing smoke into the engine as fuel. Slime is that brimming double cup you find sitting atop a Monte Carlo outside the supermarket, just waiting for you, STUFFED with ice. Slime is knowing the Season hasn’t ended, but advanced to the level of I’m Up. Slime is so Thug it Jeffrey’d the fuck out any cultural reference you feel is relevant right now. Slime is flipping a barrel in the parking lot of an old sex-toy factory. Slime is anything you can put your mind to. Slime puking on a parked car and laughing while walking away.

Been about a minute and five years since Young Thug came from nothing. In 2013, listeners were tuned to 1017 Thug, arguably the release that put Young Thug on the map (besides gaining help from Gucci and Birdman). Then Barter 6 flowed a fleek so strong it led to Slime Seasons one and two, and now we’re treated to I’m Up, what was originally intended to be the third mixtape in the series but now appears to be a 300 Entertainment/Atlantic release available through iTunes. [UPDATE (1:15 AM): Young Thug also dropped I’m Up on SoundCloud with new artwork. Stream below.]

Not only does I’m Up replace Young Thug’s Slime Season 3, but it sets himself up for an entirely new year, impregnating listeners with verbiage and vocabulary the consistency of a slime-filled dumpster. Who wants to go diving with me? Slime, I know you in.
