♫♪  ABBI PRESS - “Ambush” (Prod. Yusin)

Look, lemme be straight up about this: the video and music of “Ambush” (produced by UK duo Yusin with vocals from home-girl ABBI PRESS; all three musicians within the video) are both a bit out of my interest’s realm. However, I’ve always been more intrigued by the culture of “WHY?” than “HOW?” when it comes to music because I am NOT a musician, nor do I know that specific creative struggle. But I do pay attention, and I enjoy conceptualizing, so here’s my take on “Ambush” …Abbi Press went on a tour last year through Europe and had a connection with Yusin, so they collaborated (either before or during the tour) and shot a video (amongst a “Garden” exploration). This video is the perfect depiction of Abbi Press — as I read her Tweets daily to understand her (and essentially my) New York troubles — because she expresses her freedom from this never-resting city mindset by-way of music and dance. Through this form of spirit, her #DGAF abstraction, no matter how you perceive it, it’s OBVIOUS she’s just feeling it/herSELF. Feeling the escape from the hustle and bustle through a form of art she feels comfortable within. Fuck, it could put some warmth in today too, considering it’s like negative [everything] degrees outside and the wind will instantly kill you; she knows this pain EXACTLY right now.

FOOLED YOU, SUCKA!!! This ain’t just a music video writeup, but Abbi’s newest EP posthaste, I believe Abbi Press is using this title in a variety of ways to be read and interpreted. Going along with what I was saying before (about creative expression of freedom), posthaste could literally mean “after New York,” suggesting this clam is in the times she feels away from her daily environment’s celerity. The title could also insinuate her need to release something immediately because she’s tryna kill it this year with another release (this time full-length) coming out on Jono Mi Lo’s label, Afternoons Modeling. Either way, get hyped on feeling free!
