In an effort to thwart any critics of mine (I know you’re out there! Lying and laughing and lying…) who might think that I never know what the hell I’m talking about, I’ve decided to go ahead and admit my tenuous grasp of the information on which I’m reporting ahead of time on this one. Observe: until like 12 minutes ago, I thought that Blondie was just Debbie Harry’s stage name. Yeah, I guess as a “music journalism type” I should feel bad about that. But you know, my guess is that I’m doing a public service by admitting this ignorance. Because let’s be real here; like 5,000 people are reading this right now and thinking “shit, I didn’t realize Blondie was the band’s name either…” See, it’s okay, people! There’s no judgement here. Let the healing process begin.
Say, while we’re here together, getting to know the entity known as “Blondie” all over again, why don’t I clue you in to the fact that they (the group) are putting out a new record on their own imprint this fall? True story. It’s called Panic of Girls and it’s due on September 13. It’s actually their 9th studio album (which is a whole ‘nother surprise to me, actually, because I always just figured they made “Heart of Glass” and “One Way or Another” and COASTED from there) and may or may not contain a cover of Danzig’s “Mother.” (See? At least in that band Danzig was Danzig. Sheesh.) Around the time it comes out, Blondie (the band) will also embark on a North American tour, offering the perfect opportunity for you to impress a Blondie fan in your life with your new-found understanding that Debbie Harry is not Blondie.
