The Kendal Mintcake
The Kendal Mintcake Presents All-Star Erotic Hypnosis [CS; Big Sleep]

I LOVE this tape. There, I said it, so we’ll start there I guess. I’m serious though, I haven’t had my cortex blown like this since that Macula Dog tape came into my life like a case of audio rabies. The Kendall Mintcake is a curiously named, tip-of-the-tongue outfit, or so I perceive it, and there’s a reason people dig it, mang. This guy’s been at it for awhile as head of Big Sleep Records, and his audio betrays the sheen of experience, to be sure. But there’s more than that. It reminds me of Garrincha The Stolen Elk a bit: Kendall’s doing what a lot of others are doing, but he does it better, or at least at a heightened enough level to rise above the din without more than a few tapes to his credit (all on Big Slizzy), at least under this alias. The Kendal Mintcake Presents All-Star Erotic Hypnosis tweaks so hard you might have to be tweaking along with it to get the full effect, yet it’s no more of a challenge than, say, a Mincemeat Or Tenspeed LP or David First solo record. And its inherent of-the-moment immediacy is likely to appeal to a broad swathe of TMT faithful, from the noiseniks who probably are confused by trip-m___ to the never-ending tape-jammers to those who read the main-page reviews and forget to venture on down to the cellar to soak in the sweet, sweet Cerberus. The variety that unfurls as the tape winds down is much appreciated as well, tickling the nerves while approaching the craft from myriad angles. “Her Eyes Are On the Door” might be the best-named cut of all time, and its contents hit devastatingly hard if you get deep into electronics and need a constant feed to zone out to. It’s perfect, random enough to stimulate and deep enough to get lost in. From there it’s straight butter, TKM loading The Kendal Mintcake Presents All-Star Erotic Hypnosis with surprising twists that only get more dramatic as the tape plays on. This one came out awhile ago and remains not-not-not-OOP, a surprise and a bit of an insult to your taste if you’re one of the people without a copy. I guarantee chills.
