From the forthcoming Chrysalis EP (out Feb. 16), abbi press drops her second single, “Begin Again,” cleverly produced by Shahly. Where most nu-pop and -R&B vocalists behold a smokier, heavier vocal character, abbi really leads with vaporous singing that’s as light as it is dense, equally emphasizing the freeing lyrics of “Begin Again” and the meticulous production by Shahly. And as maximalist as the instrumental sounds, wielding audio-bits from an array of sources, the melodies and beats harmonize in a whirl-wind of whimsy, backing vocals as they collide carefully in unison. Luckily, I got a taste of the full Chrysalis EP, and it’s a real good entry from winter into spring. Who digs this weather rn? Well 60-degrees is great, but the gale-force winds and snow incoming tomorrow sounds just about right, so: “Begin Again.”
