♫♪  Patrick Cowley & Candida Royalle - Candida Cosmica

In early 70s San Francisco, a series of musical collaborations were enacted in private by disco/synth auteur Patrick Cowley and Queens native singer/performer/filmmaker/goddess Candida Royalle (née Candice Vadalla). Working as each other’s inspiration and muse, the explorations Vadalla and Cowley committed to tape feel even today like a totally unique and wigged-out private world — sort of like Yma Sumac on Mars, or a jukebox of exotica, lounge, and musique concréte beaming out of some joyful interstellar tiki bar.

Happily, a half hour of these recordings are surfacing in the form of Candida Cosmica, arriving through the good people of Dark Entries Records, and just in time to commemorate the 66th birthdays of Royalle and Cowley (born on October 15 and 19, respectively, and both now sadly passed on).

To celebrate the record as well as these births and lives (and the communities they thrived in), Dark Entries will be co-presenting two events, one in San Francisco and one in New York City:
