♫♪  Patrick Shiroishi - Black Sun Sutra

Patrick Shiroishi’s Black Sun Sutra is an exercise in breathing. There are so many little intricacies lunging out here that it’s completely relaxing. Like how they teach women to breathe a specific way for childbirth, the same goes for anyone who naturally wants to calm themselves: deep breaths work. Further-more, Black Sun Sutra is an excellent work-out album due to the heavy accentuation of wood-wind bellows and powerful transitions of notes. Also, I run during my mid-day lunch break just to stretch out my breathing routine and calm myself from wanting to come in and take my office hostage for the sake of terror. Patrick Shiroishi’s Black Sun Sutra is anti-terror.

Beyond just it being an exercise in meditative breathing and anti-terrorism, Patrick Shiroishi’s Black Sun Sutra is a perfect fit on Rob Magill’s Weird Cry Records catalog. There’s the avant and experimental, the improv and noisy, wind- and digital- instruments; this is exactly the type of release I expect on Weird Cry Records, but in a variety of ways. Patrick Shiroishi’s Black Sun Sutra inhabits each of these varieties. Listen below for proof:
