♫♪  Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson - “The Trip” (an extract)

Icelandic avant-garde artist Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson, of the longstanding experimental group (now duo) Stilluppsteypa, has a substantial catalog of solo work. A new collection of minimal sound abstractions from Sigmarsson is to be released this week by The Helen Scarsdale Agency. Originally intended to be released by the now defunct label Intransitive Recordings, So Long is finally served to your drone-thirsty ears. A version of the track “The Trip” (an excerpt of which is streaming below), was previously released on a limited cassette released last year called If You Have Any Questions, Please Let Me Ask, but is presumably in fuller form on the new release. In the excerpt we hear a tensioned drone being breached by distant bubbling arpeggios, rolling metallic textures, and hovering helicopter incantations. It builds by taking in deeper and deeper breaths of noise and texture, until finally exhaling a lonely somber tone, wandering off somewhere to continue the trip.
