♫♪  Lyonnais - “Hyperblues”

Geographic North is still continuing to keep the realness in “underground” music, y’all. From folk to ambient to club to basement rock, Geographic North is an excellent example of maintaining and curating with a musical vision, while having fun. And they don’t spend a dime on outta-house PR, so OBVIOUSLY they’re one of the music-industry TRU-LUVs. So, okay, “The music!” right?

I’m just getting all stoked because “Hyperblues” by Lyonnais is the exact sound that pulled me further into outsider, anti-social vibes of garage, basement, and shack rock. Like a friendly mix of Meth Teeth, Cat Killer, Psychedelic Horseshit, Big Trouble, and Factums, “Hyperblues” is friendly, and almost commercial, but shaded just enough so their Wayfarers reveal the quartets’ distant gaze, looking right past listeners into a collective third eye. “Hyperblues” also shows the Lyonnais’ diversity in album creation, considering their first single “Vienna Circles” had a story-teller feel, embodying the power of voice within music, while accentuating each member’s individual musical talents. Thus, “Hyperblues” demonstrates the band’s flexibility to mingle their sound collectively, as if the track is one long harmony.

Lyonnais is comprised of Geographic North co-founders Farzad Moghaddam (bass, synths) and Farbod Kokabi (guitar, vocals), with TJ Blake on drums (Lotus Plaza member) and Lee Tesche on guitar (member of Algiers), and their new album Anatomy of the Image has been available on Geographic North since April 22. Grip while you still have the chance, enjoy the equally visual-to-sound match of the hazy/grainy “Hyperblues” video below. It’s about six-minutes, and Geographic North is super quick on shipping, so if the LP arrives mid-video, turn it up for the postal worker to get that porch dance session popping. Good morning!
