Instrumental ambient duo A Winged Victory for the Sullen has finally released a music video! Directed by Christopher Hewitt, the clip for “Requiem for the Static King Part One” forms the perfect visual counterpart to the debut self-titled album track. As member Adam Wiltze explains:
We started investigating video ideas with many different directors as early as April 2011, to no avail, except for blowing currency on apocryphal hopes. Mr. Hewitt delivered us a storyboard idea around the first week of October last year, and it was well worth the wait. I feel fortunate to be surrounded by people like him, and the team at Knucklehead Films. In the end we have inspired each other, and I can only hope we will work together again before I check out of this place….
Pretty serious stuff. The video is as intimate as the band’s music, offering a glimpse of beauty where it’s never seen. Watch as a lek of monarchs (SAT word of the day: a lek is a group of butterflies) overtakes a prison, bringing temporary calm to a space often associated with brutality and anguish.
