Grip on these Cherie Cherie mystery vibes in “Why Are We Hiding.” Good title, considering I can’t find anything about their future debut 12-inch repress on Gilgongo Records. No hate, though; don’t get me wrong: Gilgongo Records are homies and Cherie Cherie is riding my alley right now. But interestingly enough, I pose the same question as the track’s title, “Why Are We Hiding.” From who are we always trying to look COOL or HIP for during the day? I seriously avoid pictures, but because my smile is akin to a jack-o-lantern.
Ok, bad intro, but that’s the facts. On a brighter note, Cherie Cherie brings back the Dum Dum Girls and Best Coast vibe of yester-never, when shit was so underground, it sounded that way. “Why Are We Hiding” brings back this distant gaze sorta rock-pop that solidifies itself in the fuzziest-fi known to guitar. And no-matter HOW slow the melody is, that rythm section is set to “Hip-Shake” mode. Never sit down to a good beat, for please -sake.
