Blue Merle Burning In The Sun

[Island; 2005]

Styles: string laden wuss-rock
Others: Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Keane, Coldplay

Apparently there's this band called Coldplay. With global sales already deep in the millions and climbing after only three consistent LPs, a lot of people really like this Coldplay. They think Coldplay is so keen, in fact, that they want to sound like them, play like them, and produce nearly identical albums as Coldplay. Blue Merle is one of these bands. For example, when the full time fiddler... aaAAH! Coldplay! *cough*... excuse me. When the full time fiddler yet not a recognized band member despite appearing on most of Burning In The Sun and needed on the rest, Billy Contreras works the roots/folk angle and gives Blue Merle their most original creative aspect comparatively, but everything else about this CD points glaringly to Coldplay's lead. Aack... aaaackoldplay, Coldplay! COLDPLAY!!! *clears throat*... ummm, produced by adult top-40 champion Stephen Harris (U2, Kula Shaker), Burning is pretty much X&Y&Fiddles&Strings&Dave Matthews, whom Harris has already recorded and I'm sure he hopes to produce Coldplay in the future...

I don't know what it is about the line "I'm out on a date with a picture of you" from Merle's "Boxcar Racer" that I find creepy, but I do. On the other hand, I still don't understand what "Yellow" was all about, except that it's a popular color for stars to be and a sign of jaundice. That and most Coldplay videos bore the hell out of me. So to recap, if you like Coldplay, you will probably like this. If you don't like Coldplay, you will not like this. Simply really when COLDPLAY! COLDPLAY!!! HAHAHAHA!!! COLDPLAY!!! CO...
