Aa announce new album ZebrAa featuring all of their old drummers

Brooklyn cool dudes Aa (pronounced Big A Little A, as if you didn’t know that already) have been at a perpetual loft party for about 14 years now. Throwing out cool shapes and good vibes since before any hipsters discovered organic farmers markets.

Because good times never die, Aa have just announced the release of their next album ZebrAa which will be available November 25 via Fire Talk Records, who the band just signed with. You can sample the lead single “Trash Hits” below.

In Spinal Tap-referencing news, ZebrAa features not one, not two, but three whole drummers, none of whom have died in unfortunately comical circumstances but all of whom have been roped from different pockets of the band’s history to play (simultaneously) on the album.

You can pre-order ZebrAa now on limited ice blue vinyl.

Fire Talk is pleased to welcome Brooklyn DIY Loft Party Stalwharts Aa

to the roster. The band’s fifth LP and first for Fire Talk will be out
November 25th Worldwide. CLRVYNT

has shared lead single “Trash Hits”. Saying…

“Two years removed from their last LP
Aa are back with *ZebrAa*, a new record due via Fire Talk in November
This time around, the band looped in percussionists from the entirety of
their existence, adding in vocal melodies and weird electronic touches to
create something wholly Aa. Their first single is “Trash Hits,” a driving,
rhythmic track that uses odd synths and electronic waves in addition to
layered vocal harmonies. Fans of Animal Collective will see parallels, but
reminder: These bands were on the come-up at the same time. Aa have been a
band for 14 years.”

Aa (“Big A little a”), one of the quintessential house bands of Brooklyn’s
mid-aughts loft party/DIY scene, has returned with their new full-length,
ZebrAa. The album is both their rawest and most accessible to date,
combining a live-tracked barrage of triple-drummer beats and polyrhythms
with a cacophony of digital psychedelia and vocal hooks. Like DIY
underground contemporaries such as Dan Deacon and Black Dice, this latest
incarnation of Aa builds on a track record of restless experimentation
within a sound that is unmistakably their own. ZebrAa will be released in
November 2016 and is the group’s first LP for Fire Talk.

ZebrAa was written and recorded with a lineup of drummers that spans the
band’s decade-long history. Mike Colin, a percussionist and psychiatrist,
played in the band’s earliest incarnations from 2002 to 2005 and on its
first LP, 2007’s gAame; Hank Shteamer, a writer for publications including
Rolling Stone and Pitchfork as well as a drummer and vocalist in his band
STATS, first performed with Aa from 2005 to 2006 and appeared on 2014’s LP
voyAager; and Julian Bennett-Holmes, a composer of contemporary classical
music, has played in Aa since 2013, in addition to being a member of Fiasco
and Zulus . The fresh rhythmic chemistry of this trio – recorded live
together at The Civil Defense studios in Brooklyn – is paired with vibrant
electronic sounds and vocals courtesy of John Atkinson and Aron Wahl, the
constants in the group throughout all of their full-length releases.
