Saddle Creek signs Ada Lea, shares new track from forthcoming debut album what we say in private

I knew when I saw Ada Lea open for Bill Callahan last year it wouldn’t be the last time I would see her. I wasn’t sure when or where, but I knew it would be soon. I can say that after MANY years of major drunken prognostications, it’s nice to see my minor sober forecastings come true. More importantly, it is marvelous to report that Ada Lea will be releasing her debut album on Saddle Creek in July!

The Montréal-based musician and artist born Ali Levy is the newest signing to Saddle Creek and what we say in private is out on July 19 (Next Door Records in Canada). Borne of personal anguish and an art-first recovery process, what we say in private is a time capsule of Levy’s life over a certain period, sound-tracked by songs of love and loss wrapped in distinctive warm tones.

There are a couple of nice LP/art print packages available (including a Saddle Creek-exclusive, limited glow-in-the-dark edition available here) but you can pore over all formats and pre-saving/pre-order info here and here.

Check out the Monse Muro-directed video for “the party” below (and the French version directed by Laura-Lynn Petrick too!):

01. mercury
02. wild heart
