Argentina’s Tatiana Heuman is a “sound creator.” She’s an “avant-pop artist.” She’s so many things that we love and so much more than that. So it’s extra exciting that we get to premiere today the first single from her upcoming album QEEI, out this August on Astro Nautico.
Some may have heard Heuman for the first time as a percussionist in the band Ricarda Cometa, which just released a beautiful, delectable record. Even when surrounded by the wild improvisations of her band, Heuman shines through as a driving force of chaos and creation. On her newest single, however, she’s playing a whole new ballgame.
“Quemó Tu Curuyú” sounds more like a Holly Herndon production than it does an improvised Latin rhythm-ride. Its samples (there are a handful) are truncated beyond recognition. The ragga is certainly there, but it’s been dressed in colorful tassels, chopped into pieces, and pasted ever-so deliberately across a large canvas. Nevertheless — it’s catchy. Heuman’s abilities as a rhythmic creative are highlighted in multi-color, not diminished in the least by the flood of sonic textiles.
Check the track out below, along with the befitting cover art — and keep your ears to the ground for more news about the record’s release date soon! (Right here, at Tiny Mix Tapes .)
