Bear in Heaven announce new album Time Is Over One Day Old, blow Ted Theodore Logan's mind with that title

Long, long ago in a music scene far, far away, David Byrne famously said, “time isn’t holding us, time isn’t after us.” Man, was that ever profound! And for a long time to come, most rock musicians assumed that there was nothing else cool to say about the matter. But, spoiler-alert, motherfuckers: UNTIL NOW.

Bear in Heaven have just gone and all-audaciously announced a new album, due August 5 via the Dead Oceans label, and it bears the epic title Time Is Over One Day Old. Just think about that. Go ahead. Take a second to let it really sink in. Yeah. It’s like… whoa.

But in addition to “whoa,” it’s also like, the band’s follow-up to 2012’s I Love You, It’s Cool and finds the band (according to their press release) “once again turning their gaze inward and prioritizing their evocative abilities in line with or even slightly ahead of technical skills.” Man, that reminds me; I’ve been meaning to take a day to re-prioritize my own evocative abilities for a while now. Gotta get on that shit.

Anyway! How and why did the band become so deep and prophetic as to give David Byrne a run for his (tons and tons of) money? Main-dude Jon Philpot puts it this way: “we’re setting aside the things that most people focus on [and instead] staking our claim in some ethereal place […] A lot of shedding, getting rid of layers and pre-conceptions… breaking up with old ways of thinking, old ways of being, starting to look at this thing in a new way and finding something positive.”

Now, if your mind isn’t blown to smithereens after that knowledge-drop, here’s a preview of the first single “Time Between,” followed by some epic world tour dates down below. Your mind will be a rich, poetic soup in no time. Your move, Mr. Byrne!
