Black Truffle announce archival set from legendary sound artist Paul DeMarinis, Songs Without Throats

One month into 2019, it’s past time to integrate ourselves into the year ahead. Now that the intoxicating newness of re-beginning in this moment has freshly sloughed off our tired bodies, we can once again center ourselves and reanalyze the shambled histories we momentarily reached beyond in our collective celebratory exodus. (Finally!)

To that end, the ever historically-minded team at Black Truffle is set to bring us an archival document from the pioneering artistic voice of electronic composer Paul DeMarinis titled Songs Without Throats. It’s out February 15, which gives you a couple weeks or so to further come to terms with the new year’s recent un-newness.

A two year project between Black Truffle’s Oren Ambarchi and DeMarinis, the set collects prime recordings from the late 70s to 1995, focusing on “DeMarinis’s exploration of synthesized voice and the digital analysis and manipulation of speech sounds.” The compilation includes rare tracks and never-before-listened-to pieces that showcase the full breadth of DeMarinis’s forerunning approach on instruments as diverse as the self-built “Pygmy Gamelan” and a hacked Speak & Spell.

Songs Without Throats comes in a 2xLP gatefold package featuring images and liners from DeMarinis himself. Pre-order it here and survey the tracklisting below. Into the living past we go.
