As someone SOMEWHERE once observed (I think it might have been Tiny Tim at Christmas dinner, if I’m remembering right): “The plan keeps coming up again.” But of course, as the old saying (often attributed to Civil Disobedience author Benjamin Franklin) goes: “Plans don’t mean shit if they ain’t implemented.”
With that in mind: guess how many years ago Built to Spill released Keep It Like A Secret? Yep. 20 wonderful, gutarriffic years. And so, as is the custom these days, Doug Martsch (and whoever the hell else is in Built To Spill) are celebrating the album’s China Anniversary by scouring Etsy for the perfect gift playing the album in-full on a big ol’ tour.
Thus far, the dates announced consist mainly of a bunch of UK and European dates this spring, but C’MON. You and I (and fucking Doug) just know there’s gonna be more around the corner.
For starters, the band has just COINCIDENTALLY announced two NYC dates for the tour, going down at the newly-renovated Webster Hall on September 30 and October 1. They haven’t “officially” labeled these shows as Keep It Like A Secret 20th Anniverary shows, but…I don’t “officially” write Music News articles for Tiny Mix Tapes either. And yet, here we are.
Tickets for those Webster Hall shows go on sale Friday, March 1 at noon; in the mean time, dust off your angel wings, and get warmed-up by pumping your fists along to this absolute powerhouse of a 90s guitar-rock album down below:
