Coyote Records premieres Drain, debut EP from Jamaica-Miami producer Marks

Googling “dubtrap” to see if some reaching writer or keyword-savvy publicist has coined the phrase as a microgenre unzips many a body-bag of the Soundcloud era. Liquid pools at the epicenter of the virtual morgue’s floor, as if the room itself were a sink. The mortician rinses digital hands at the digital sink; water mostly, autopsy funked, but still the stuff of life…life on Earth at least. But what about…below?

On June 16, UK label Coyote Records will release Drain, the debut EP by Marks, a Miami producer by way of Jamaica, whose dripping beats evoke subterranean cinema scoring as much as they do the low-end inclinations of his former and current home-basses. Legend has it that the label discovered the artist by stumbling across his Soundcloud page, where they found the bloodied remnants of time spent on the Jamaican mixtape trade, its subdued resonance turned violently tense by culture shock…like Silent Hill samples suddenly gnashing at the throats of the drums they were chopped to accompany.

Horrific in the best sense possible, Marks’ Drain streams in its entirety down below. You can also pick up the entire EP on digital and limited tape run right here…if you think you’ve got the stomach for it.

Drain EP tracklisting:
