Deer Tick leave for tour in unspecified mode of travel after auctioning off their bus for $2000

So if there’s one thing TMT has established, it’s that Deer Tick like to tour. Nobody knows why, and frankly, we’re getting a bit tired of reporting on it. In fact, instead of touting their newest tourdates, I’m going to point out the little-known fact that John McCauley is not the biggest John McCauley there ever was, unless you specify John Joseph McCauley III. The elder John McCauley (no relation) was an NHL referee in the 70s, a man in whom the love of ice hockey coursed long and strong and was passed down to his progeny.

Big or small in the name game, John J. McCauley really loves playing music, and we’re happy for him, the rest of the band, and folksy rock as a whole. So let’s hear it for Deer Tick and the continuation of — well, what they did all summer; hell, they played Lollapalooza as just a little gig to promote their third full-length album, The Black Dirt Sessions. Listen to “Piece by Piece, Frame by Frame” from the album on Partisan Records here.

Now for the real question: how are they getting around? For all of 2009, Deer Tick traveled around the States in “The Flagship.” But in light of the continued urgent need for aid for Pakistan flood victims, Deer Tick — heartless bloodsuckers that they are — sold the bus on eBay for $2000 (only 122,134 miles). A majority of the proceeds will then be donated to those afflicted in Pakistan (via Oxfam America).
