Look, who doesn’t love a win-win situation? Well, we’ve got one for you here. Following the back-to-back catastrophes in Mexico and Puerto Rico — a magnitude 7 earthquake and a category 4 hurricane respectively — Matthew Barnes is adding a little extra heft to the chorus of well-intentioned thoughts and prayers currently reverberating around the Twittersphere by releasing two new singles under his Forest Swords alias to raise money for aid in the affected countries.
In their accompanying press release, Barnes’ label Ninja Tune states that proceeds from “Congregate” and “Free” — two spatial, open, and beatless outtakes from this year’s otherwise more rhythmically-propelled Compassion LP — would be going “towards ongoing and future aid work following the devastating hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and this month’s earthquake in Mexico.”
You can check out a video for “Congregate” below, which features the work of origami artist Fynn Jackson. And you can, of course, buy the singles on Barnes’ Bandcamp; thus respectively sending cash to relief efforts for Mexico and Puerto Rico.
(Pretty-please. With singles on top.)
