Four-day vinyl music festival planned for July; it's called Vinyl Music Festival...

Attention crate-diggers, dust-breathers, and DJs! Have you been looking for an excuse to visit beautiful Sarasota, Florida? Is there a gap in your gig schedule during the weekend of July 15, and you can’t find anything to fill it? Do you have a craving to search through bin after bin of 25¢ records with a giant horde of fellow vinyl nerds (Vinerds)?

I bet you answered “yes” to all those questions and you’re waiting with crazed interest for what my suggestion will be! Well, I’d say you should head on down to Sarasota during the weekend of July 15-18 and enjoy the Vinyl Music Festival!

Plenty of details are still in the works, but expect a smorgasbord of DJs (more than 50 artists at 12 different venues) and plenty of “roof-top parties, beach parties, street parties, and general wax-focused revelry” with 5,000 people penciled in as attendees. Plus, you can expect plenty of coke — and after-parties, presumably. Is there anything else we can plan for?

“Our festival is about more than just the music,” says organizer Matt Orr. “It’s about engaging with an entire city by visiting the beautiful beaches and experiencing the arts organizations and culinary gems we’re known for while enjoying a world-class music festival.”

Oh, okay, I get it now! An ass-ton of DJs playing some shows is hardly enough to qualify as a “festival,” so you’re doing the whole “our festival is about more than just music” thing so that people buy tickets expecting a crappy show and aren’t disappointed to find out that everything costs extra, Sarasota sucks, and the coolest parts of the weekend don’t include any of the “scheduled events.” Great work, but I’ll stick to my weekly, VFW-sponsored “Vinyl Music Festival and Record Sale” and continue avoiding Florida.

You should go, though.
