Frog Eyes are about ready to croak: announce final album and farewell tour

How long do frogs typically live, anyway? Vancouver-based indie rock foursome Frog Eyes have been keepin’ it cold-blooded since like 2001 (it’s amazing that they haven’t been stepped on by now!) — so it’s probably only fittingly humane that the band has announced that they’ll be putting themselves to sleep after the release of their 11th and final full-length studio album Violet Palms — which is due May 18 on Paper Bag Records.

Created by the band “at home,” alpha-amphibian Carey Mercer says the band’s goal was “to block out the world, focusing on what they could grow down there, four musicians in a basement.” In that sense, the group’s last riiiiiibbit serves as a fitting (if not exactly “sonorous”) echo of their very first: “we were trying to pretend it was our first record,” Mercer says, stressing the intent to simply “capture the energy of a debut,” the freedom you feel “when there’s no expectation that anyone will actually listen.”

“B-b-b-but,” you ask, “isn’t there anything I can DO to SAVE THE POOR FROGS?!?” Sadly, no. The prognosis is terminal. But if you really want to help send-off your fellow vertebrates with the comfiest coffins possible, you can pre-order Violet Palms from Paper Bag right here and check out the track “Idea Man” down below, followed by the full album tracklist and a list of the band’s final hops around the US and Canada this summer. RIP, little buddies. <3
