The Hold Steady announce new album, weekend-only summer tour (no, seriously)

Good news for all you Craig Finn-types out there: The Hold Steady are set to come back with a brand new album. Thrashing Through The Passion, the band’s seventh studio album, is out in August via Frenchkiss Records.

Weighing in at a lean 10 tracks, the album pairs five brand new Hold Steady jams along with five jellies previously digitally released between November 2017 and March 2019.

One of those new artisan-crafted spreads is “Denver Haircut,” a song Craig Finn — the biggest Craig Finn-type of us all — says, “is a story about a guy who has chance meet up that takes him to a few different locations before leaving him alone and cashless in a strange hotel room.” Don’t worry; we’ve all been there, guy-the-story-of-“Denver Haircut”-is-about!

In honor of Thrashing Through The Passion, The Hold Steady will be embarking on a series of weekend shows this summer that they’re calling “Constructive Summer 2019.” Over four different weekends in August and September, the band will be in four different cities — Seattle, Chicago, Nashville, Boston — to play a series of shows over three consecutive days. The band will also be in New York in December for their fourth-annual “Massive Nights” series of shows at Brooklyn Bowl.
