Oh, thank the lord that we’re dealing with a matured Kanye these days. Otherwise, Scottish producer Hudson Mohawke might have to deal with a personalized version of the Taylor Swift incident, wherein Mr. West would unilaterally interfere in the album distribution process and proclaim via megaphone to every single warehouse: “Yo Hudson, I know you’re out there, and Imma let you finish, but the beats that you laid down on Yeezus marked some of the best production work of all time — (excepting my own). OF ALL TIME.” Begin CD confiscation and the gradual decline of Hudson’s (Ross Birchard’s) burgeoning solo career.
Lantern, then, will be released on June 16 via Warp. It’s been a whopping six years since HudMo’s Butter, but obviously that doesn’t mean a dearth of activity, especially given his added affiliations with some of hip-hop’s biggest names (Drake, Azealia Banks, etc.). Then there’s his TNGHT collaboration with Canadian producer Lunice, but I’m sure Birchard himself would prefer that we focus on the forthcoming:
This album is everything I’ve been working towards. I wanted to make a classic - at least for me and my friends. I never wanted to be any genre. I wanted to be my own thing. Everything.
The “Antony” on the tracklisting is in reference to Antony Hegarty, by the way. No comment on the teaser below.
