Immix Ensemble founder Daniel Thorne announces debut album Lines of Sight, premieres new single

Australian-born, Liverpool-based composer, saxophonist and founder of Immix Ensemble Daniel Thorne has just released “Fear of Floating,” the second single off of his upcoming debut album Lines of Sight, which is due out on March 15 via Erased Tapes.

“Feat of Floating” is a lush, ever-evolving track centered around a number of Thorne’s sparse saxophone melodies. At first, the electric and acoustic elements dance around each other, hesitant to connect. Slowly, as the piece unfolds, Thorne skillfully urges the two together, creating alluring waves of drone in the process.

“As the final track on the album, I wanted “Fear of Floating” to be to be the opposite of the album’s beginning (“From Inside, Looking Out”) by being much sparser, eschewing large dense textures and instead focusing on a single melodic ‘voice’ that gets bashed about by its surroundings, before finally washing up somewhere peaceful and alone,” says Thorne.

Check out “Fear of Floating” below, as well the tracklist for Lines of Sight (which you can pre-order here) and a string of European tour dates featuring minimalistic heavy-hitters Daniel Brandy, Terry Riley, and Gyan Riley.
