Josephine Foster to leave you positively red in the face with new album Blood Rushing, out on Fire Records next month

Public speaking is supposedly one of the most common fears of human beings, so I imagine many of our readers will be able to relate to the following: you know the feeling, as a student, when your name’s about to be called to give a presentation to the class? Well, I think we all secretly acknowledge the fact that most student presentations are basically a ruse thought up by teachers in order to waste class time, but try and recall the state of your physical body during these moments. If you’re like most of us — meaning, not some freakishly outgoing person who actually excites at the idea of public speaking — then your blood’s probably pumping, HARD, out of sheer nervousness. Similarly, unless you’ve got a healthy layer of fat in between your heart and your ribcage, you can probably feel each successive pump of the former. You know Ms. Thatcher is going to utter your name any second now, but it’s too late! Your circulatory system has been working with such ferocity that your head has literally EXPLODED! There’s blood everywhere! Ahhhhhhh!

More than likely, this is not quite what Josephine Foster and co. had in mind when they were recording Blood Rushing, her new full-length album set for release on September 18. In an anecdote related by artist Natasha Pradhan, writing about (presumably) the theme of the new album, she states, “Cleansing. The sanitation of blood, even. Sometimes I hear my own flesh and it terrifies me — it’s a sonic confirmation of everything we believe in. It’s natures heart beating harder than any story I couldn’t have written on my own.” So, consciousness, and life itself both seem to be major inspirations. I guess I’ll just have to continue waiting for that once-in-a-lifetime explosive head-themed folk album. Check out the track “Child of God” below.
