Here’s a small, cool thing: The Joy Formidable are reissuing their 2009 debut EP for its 10th anniversary alongside a second album containing new versions of all its songs in Welsh.
Said EP, the enigmatically named A Balloon Called Moaning, contains the band’s early signature song, “Whirring,” which, according to a press release, was notably dug by none other than Dave Grohl. The reissue will be released in a limited pressing of 1,000 copies, out October 25 via Hassle Records.
The Welsh versions on the second disc, which is named Y Falŵn Drom, are also stripped-down, acoustically inclined readings of the songs. Guitarist Ritzy Bryan characterizes them as “a celebration of language as well as memory.”
The Joy will tour behind the reissue as well, and you can view both their tour dates and the tracklist for the reissue below. The group’s November 23 Cardif will also mark the inaugural “Formidable Festival,” at which they will play both a short acoustic set and a full electric set, and for which the lineup will promote Welsh-language acts and acts from Wales.
