Kevin Morby is steadily proving that he has the old-school singer/songwriter game down pat. He not only crafts melodic gems in the freewheeling they-don’t-make-‘em-like they-used-to style, he’s also got the old-school work ethic in terms of output and touring lifestyle that is rare amongst the post-Napster generation.
Case in point being: hot on the heels of last year’s groovy Harlem River, he’s set to release another full-length called Still Life on October 14 via his pals at Woodsist.
Case in point also being: his month-long schlep around America wasn’t quite Bob Dylan enough in terms of road hours, so he’s now lined up a whole string of dates in Europe and America with like-minded souls Steve Gunn and Small Black.
Still Life is said to reflect Morby’s recent move from New York to Los Angeles and sees Morby roping in the same players from Harlem River for more bittersweet tales in which “violent fates, wrestling with destiny and the nature of death creep into songs.” The lead single “Parade” is below and suggests that Morby’s golden run of jams is set to continue with Still Life.
