“What is it you want, Kirin? You want the moon? Just say the word and I’ll throw a lasso around it and pull it down.”

“Bang, zoom! To the moon, Kirin!”

Strange Australian man Kirin J. Callinan has unleashed new music upon the world. As of 9 AM Eastern Standard Time today — Tuesday, March 12, 2019 — you can listen to Callinan’s rendition of The Waterboys’ “The Whole of the Moon,” out on Terrible Records.

The track is the first to see the light of day off of Callinan’s forthcoming album, the title of which has not been revealed yet. Callinan’s last album was 2017’s Bravado. The gap between that album and Callinan’s new one is shaping up to be much shorter than the one that followed his 2013 debut, Embracism.

The introduction of Callinan’s “The Whole of the Moon” was improvised by Drew Erickson, and its outro borrows from Bruce Hornsby’s “That’s Just the Way It Is.” Callinan premiered the song’s video, which was conceived and shot in a single day in New York City, at SXSW. Watch it below, followed by his latest, greatest tour dates.
