Guys, fuck — the goddamn Pixies suck now! Can we, like, get a new one of those or something? Oh, sweet, look, here’s one. It’s a (non-metal) band called MOURN, a sludgy gnarly four piece boy-girl Spanish punk group thingy of self-proclaimed “nerds playing music and shit at the doors of hell.” Sounds like something Frank Black would endorse, right? Yeah, close enough. And besides, even if we wouldn’t, fuck that guy, remember? “But still,” you rightly ask as a nihilistic old Pixies fan; “why should I care, Nobodaddy?” Right on. Well, let’s see here.
Oh. Well, first of all, they’re all young as shit. Jazz Rodríguez Bueno and Carla Pérez Vas, who form the core of the band, were both born in 1996 (making them all of 18 at the moment) in El Maresme, Catalonia, Spain. After initially releasing a bunch of scrappy, raw, acoustic stuff on their YouTube channel, they recruited drummer Antonio Postius — who’s also 18 — and bassist Leia Rodríguez — who’s freakin’ 15. So, there. Be impressed!
Second of all, on February 17, 2015, Captured Tracks will release the band’s self-titled debut on vinyl, which will feature 11 tracks, uh, “captured” TOTALLY LIVE OVER JUST TWO DAYS in the studio. Like, whoa, man. You’re probably not all UP ON MUSIC like I am or anything, but… take my word for it that that’s, like, totally not a lot of days in the studio.
Thirdly, TOTALLY UNLIKE EVERYONE ELSE’S RECORDS that are for sale, you can pre-order that shit whenever you feel like it. But, since punk rock is all about the “fuck-it-nothing-matters” factor, you can also buy the digital version whenever the hell you want. Shit, if you don’t even want to do that, you can just listen to and/or download the single “Silver Gold” right now. Or, you know, later. Really any old nihilistic time you want to, you rebel, you.
