Band names can trick you. Some bands, you read their name on a piece of paper, and you have no idea what their sound is going to be. True story: when people first heard the name “The Strokes,” everyone assumed they were a merengue band.
Mutoid Man however, is not one of these bands. Because when you hear that a band’s name is “Mutoid Man,” there’s zero doubt in your mind that what you’re about to hear will be sludgiest sludge that ever sludged its way into your eardrums. And on War Moans, the band’s forthcoming second album, that sludge just keeps on a-flowin’.
Throughout 12 tracks, Mutoid Man pull of some pure, 100%, no shame, ridiculous shit; and I mean “shit” in the most complimentary, endearing way possible. Seriously: what’cha want? You want chugging bass lines? Absurd drum rhythms? Theatrical, almost Van Halen-esque guitar riffs? Lyrics as perverted and crazy as, “Came inside of Satan’s daughter / Nine months later, who’s the father?” Well then, person-with-oddly-specific-tastes: look no further than War Moans.
The album is out THIS FRIDAY, June 2 via Sargent House. But there’s still time to pre-order it on vinyl, CD, and download.
