Nigerian producer Ekiti Sound signs with Crammed Discs for debut album "Abeg No Vex," premieres "lfe" video

Blessed be the internet, for it has helped to broadcast music from Africa to the western world. At one point limited to dollar record crates and Steve Reich experiments, Africa’s artistry is now more visible than ever. Tags and labels are easier to follow than crate digging ever was.

Nigerian producer, electronic musician, and vocalist, Ekiti Sound — also known as CHiF — has signed to the Belgium-based label Crammed Discs, joining a lineup that has consisted of Akron/Family, Carl Craig, Tuxedomoon, and a plethora of other cosmopolitan artists. To celebrate the signing, Ekiti is teaming up with TMT to premiere the video the single “lfe,” from his upcoming album, Abeg No Vex, due out sometime this November.

After spending much of his career between London and Nigeria, Ekiti’s sound isn’t rooted, rather its a tapestry of worldly influences meshed together under the umbrella of his moniker. But thanks to the good old internet, such rootlessness is no match for your web browser. Watch the video for “lfe” below as many times you like — and just click here to grab the single digitally (backed with “Oba Oluwa”) at your leisure.
