Wow, guys! This news is, like, 2 GOOD 2 Beeee…okay, I’m not going to go there.
Plain and simple: Los Angeles synth-pop/R&B mainstay Ramona Gonzales a.k.a. Nite Jewel has just announced her fourth studio LP. It’s called Real High, features contributions from Julia Holter, Dâm-Funk, and Droop-E , and will be released through Gonzales’ own Gloriette Records on May 5, 2017. Boom. Done.
Okay, wait. Maybe a little less plain and simple than that: Gonzales has also unveiled the new album’s first single, “2 Good 2 Be True,” a club-ready bite of cool house that finds Gonzales far-removed from the “world of perpetual ’80s” she once used to inhabit so eagerly. But if the clip that accompanies the new track (not to mention the abundance of numerical 2’s in its title) is any indication, she isn’t exactly throwing the baby out with the bathwater or anything. Directed by fellow LA music personage Geneva Jacuzzi, this cherry-on-top is equal parts The Seventh Seal and Black Box’s “Everybody Everybody,” and it definitely still exhibits the kind of dandy humor Nite Jewel has gotten us used to with her previous work.
