NY venue Trans-Pecos talks killer fall shows, Matana Roberts and Excepter curating, and the libations that await

Forget the possibility of bureaucratic red tape: renegade master of ceremonies Todd P was totally testing your passion for music by opening up the Ridgewood, Queens, NY venue Trans-Pecos without a liquor license or a leniency toward indoor heroin shooting. At least one of those “issues” is on the verge of being resolved, as an email from Todd himself tells us that the New York State Liquor Authority has approved the venue’s application for a full liquor license, which goes into real effect following a standard “dry period” that begins September 13. Until that ends, no BYOB or anything; down your food from the associated and newly-opened El Camino cafe with a root beer, perhaps, in the honestly-named (and also new) “urban blight beer garden.” So much commercial progress!

Trans-Pecos was pulling worthwhile acts even before the doors had hinges, but in honor of the venue’s increasing haute couture, there are a number of supremely special events coming up this fall. Among the newly-announced guest curators: Excepter, Matana Roberts, PC Worship, and Jim McHugh (NYMPH) and Joe Denardo (Growing) presenting a new film series. Performance-wise, expect shows with Loren Connors, C. Spencer Yeh, Mount Eerie, Bastard Noise, Jason Lescalleet, and Kayo Dot + Islaja (same night) this month alone! Look to October for a pretty sweet-looking Sacred Bones showcase as well.

Fuckin’ New York.
