Taking the tenets of John Dewey’s “learning by doing” theory to heart, the duo of Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart backburnered their classical piano training when they began creating and performing as Ohmme and jumped in calloused fingers first, laying out guitar-based avant noise with brash abandon. By creating sounds foreign to what they both were doing previously (and to what everyone was hearing previously), Ohmme (f.k.a. Homme) released their enthusiastic self-titled EP in June 2017, and TODAY (August 24) have unleashed their anxiously-anticipated, hotly-tipped, debut full-length!

Parts is the debut album by Ohmme and it comes courtesy of the always adventuresome Joyful Noise Recordings. Pitched near and dear to the heart of Chicago’s music scene, Cunningham and Stewart have enlisted a few of Chicago brightest stars for Parts — namely, Doug McCombs (Tortoise, Eleventh Dream Day) and agile jazz hands Tameka Reid (now based in NYC) and Ken Vandermark.

After releasing two disparate tastes from Parts, a new track, “Peach”, has been issued. And it is a peach of a song too; fuzzy and crunchy but seductively sweet. Ohmme tour dates are below (including a clutch with Iron & Wine in November). But today is release day, so order your Parts picks here first please!
