Rafael Toral preps new album Constellation in Still Time for Room 40, shares excerpt

Portuguese composer Rafael Toral is set to release his latest album, Constellation in Still Time, on Lawrence English’s Room 40 label.

The new record consists of a single 72-minute track, “AER 7 G,” a “simple and compelling piece of reductive composition,” as the label writes, that “combines piano, harp, vibraphone, clavinet, rhodes and sinewaves to create a music that generates sensations of the infinite, through the acoustic.” The piece dates back to 1992 and features Toral, along with five musicians who “made it suddenly possible to develop the project” in 2019.

Constellation in Still Time is Toral’s first release since 2018’s Space Quartet and is out on CD/Digital November 29. Scope a sample of the album below, and stay tuned to Room 40 for pre-order information.
