Want your minds blown wide apart, noise-pop-lovers? Here goes: It has been damn-near THIRTY years since UK shoegazers Ride released their seminal first EPs and debut album Nowhere.
Yeah, I know! I remember EXACTLY where I was when I heard that first EP so don’t be a-whining about getting older and shaking your fist at inanimate objects and putting your back out while getting up from the can. I’ve heard it all before (and did the last two just yesterday, dagnabbit!). You can’t fight age, but some know how to do it gracefully while keeping their hearts flush with youthful enthusiasm.
Despite experiencing more ups and downs than many of its peers, the quartet has been on the rise for the past few years and has steadily been making new noise and playing live with a renewed zest reminiscent of its halcyon days. With a new album due in August, the band has announced a slew of new North American tour dates and has shared a new track called “Repetition.”
Oxford’s finest (take that Radiohead!) will release This Is Not A Safe Place on August 16 through Wichita Recordings. Once again produced by Erol Alkan (who produced 2017’s Weather Diaries) and mixed by the master of the genre, Alan Moulder (The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, Lush, Moby, U2, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails…yeah), the album features twelve new tracks, including new single “Repetition” below.
UK dates have already been booked for November/December but the band have announced a batch of North American shows too, beginning on September 16 in Detroit through to October 16 in the home of the Rickenbacker, Santa Ana.
