In the annals of “alt-country” history, 20 years before now, one of the most noteworthy splits was that of the band Uncle Tupelo. While one half of the group became a little band called Wilco, the other half, led by Jay Farrar, was dubbed Son Volt.
While Wilco have spent the past 20 years taking sometimes incremental steps and sometimes giant leaps away from their alt-country roots, Son Volt remained pretty fixed to the modus operandi of playing great country tunes with a modern slant.
Not content to let Wilco be alone in the process of looking back in the rearview mirror, Son Volt has just announced the reissue of its debut album Trace, complete with all the goodies any self-respecting reissue should have: remastered originals, alternate takes, demos, a live recording, and comprehensive liner notes. Oh, and a vinyl reissue too!
Rhino will lay it all out on the metaphoric merch table on October 30.
Farrar will also be re-assembling members who played on Trace to head out on tour in support of the release. Check those dates below.
