I’m a longtime fan, and even I was surprised by the relative noisiness of Supersilent’s last numerical endeavor. But it bodes well for the trio’s indefinite musical endurance that they’re still capable of sonic intrigue after more than 20 years of regular album releases.

Supposedly Arve Henriksen, Ståle Storløkken, Jarle Vespestad, and Helge Sten (a.k.a. Deathprod) formed the group after an initial, spontaneous performance at the Nattjazz Festival in Bergen back in 1997; and despite Vespestad leaving the outfit in 2009, the simultaneous continuity and variation in Supersilent’s sound has made them an easy entryway for those looking to explore the esoteric sounds behind the intimidating EAI acronym. Each member certainly has their other projects, but it would be the epitome of bad luck to suddenly end their joint efforts on the number 13. (For one thing, think of how many colors haven’t been used yet!)

Hence, 14 is scheduled for release via the Smalltown Supersound label on September 28. It most recently follows Henriksen’s wonderful solo album Towards Language from last year, and I can tell you THIS: you both DO and do NOT know where 14 is going if you’ve been following Supersilent up until this point. Oh, to be (un)predictable!
