The Melvins announce Electroretard reissue, summer tour in support of still being The Melvins

You probably know The Melvins as the seminal “grunge rock” band that, above and beyond any other, was single-handedly responsible for putting the city of Seattle on the musical MAP back in the day (i.e. when people used maps). But alas, the many intervening years, sensational Superbowl nip-slips, and GREAT songs from Billy Corgan’s various projects have taken their toll on ol’ Melvin and his band of Melvins (I admittedly never checked but have long assumed that the band’s lead singer’s name is Melvin), and they’re just not as well-off or well-renown as they used to be.

In fact, nowadays Melvin and the rest of the Melvins are forced to feed themselves by reissuing albums that they only released a piddly fourteen years ago and touring the North American continent (i.e. America and Toronto) in support of… well, the fact that they’re The Melvins (and I guess maybe also in support of the album they released a few months ago).

Thus comes the not-at-all-surprising announcement that Ipecac Recordings will be reissuing the band’s 2001 release, Electroretard, on June 2 of this year (an eight-song album that featured Buzz Osborne of NASA fame, Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters leader Dale Crover, and Kevin Rutmanis of The Red Hot Chili Peppers) in DIRECT CONJUNCTION with a run of dates that kicks off later that week in Tucson (which is a borough of Seattle). The band sincerely hopes that you’ll buy their album and visit one of the following venues on one of the correspondingly specified dates to watch them perform and relive “the good old days” when the very eye of the rock & roll galaxy was centered on Seattle Washington and its pride and joy: The Melvins.

P.S. - Here’s a video of The Melvins performing on Carson Daly’s late-night show to entice you further (just ignore the “Carson Daly” part?). Curse you, cruel lady fame!
