Thee Oh Sees to release Castlemania before you're done reading this headline

Them raucous, overworked bringers of the new psych-garage underground have once again exceeded expectations for a group of fans whose expectations are already higher than most. Just a meager year after Warm Slime (TMT Review), their most recent full-length on In the Red, and a handful of 7-inches and 12-inches in the interim, Thee Oh Sees have already announced the release of Castlemania, their newest piece of work for In the Red.

While it might seem like Castlemania is just another parrallel notch along the same line of endless Oh Sees output, according to main man John Dwyer this one threatens to actually sport a theme of sorts: “I guess there is a theme going on in this record. It’s shit I didn’t realize while making it — songs about bad things, packaged in a summery record about getting numb to life and its little pleasures as you take it for granted with age.” Well said, my man. So apparently we should expect a little bit of that sunny popness that’s been poppin’ outta the Bay Area recently (à la Sonny and The Sunsets, The Mantles). I can dig it.

The four-piece has also recently recruited a fifth member into the crew — multi-instrumentalist Lars Finberg of the equality prolific Seattle band The Intelligence and former drummer for A Frames. Before the band can even get this new record on the shelves, they’ve also already announced plans for a record for the fall, which, according to the press release, Dwyer claims is “maybe our best yet.” He apparently is expecting an early death or the zombie apocalypse, cause this type of output is borderline crackhead-level. Expect Castlemania on June 14 and expect about 10-20 more releases this year.
