Who says it’s a label reserved for euphemistic communists and individuals consciously seeking to unweave the very fabric of the United States? I’m sure independent senator from Vermont and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders would argue that his free-market skepticism makes him even more patriotic than his counterparts, because such a position is actually for the objective well-being of the country, whereas those using their invisible hand to cup the butt cheeks of Adam Smith are at least mistaken and at most doing irreparable harm to our national life-state. Bernie’s brand of socialism, due in no small part to his own fervor concerning economic inequality, is resonating, and there’s a particular demographic that kind of has a knack for contributing to that sort of thing. Resonance, I mean.
Musicians! A litany of musicians have recently declared their support for Sanders, and their names appear on his website among a more general list of “artists and cultural leaders” who hate (love) America. Some of those musicians are Thurston Moore, Lil B, Jello Biafra, Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr.), Yoni Wolf (WHY?), Serj Tankian (System of a Down), and Hans Zimmer.
